Hiking Mount Walsh NP Utopia Rock Pools Biggenden

The Utopia Rock Pools hiking trail is similar to following a rainbow, the journey in itself is beautiful, but the real prize awaits you at the end.

Whether you are just passing through, or staying for a few days, the region around Gympie has a lot more than just Mount Walsh to offer when it comes to outdoor adventures.

The best part of all, as its so remote its not overcrowded, even on a hot summers day!

The Adventure

Waterfall Creek, located within the Mount Walsh National Park, is a short 3km return in & out hike to some of the most beautiful natural rock pools and slides in SE QLD.

The hike in is more along the lines of a gentle stroll and can be accessed by hikers and walkers of a most fitness grade.  There’s no major elevation so as long as you take it slow, even the littlest family member should make it.

There are some steps at the end of the hike down to the creek and the walk along the rocks that form the creek bed itself can be slippery in places so make sure to take care.

There are a few different pools to jump in for a swim but make sure to always have a feel around first before jumping to make sure the levels haven’t dropped.

If the creeks water is flowing the natural rock slides joining the pools are hours of fun.

Just make sure to bring a picnic and plenty of water to drink as I usually find once we get here, no one ever wants to leave!

Once you reach the creek bed and pools don't let that stop you.  Continue the adventure by hiking upstream along the creek, rock hopping, climbing over tree branches and fallen palm leaves for as long as you like.

It’s the perfect way to warm up after a dip in the cooler weather or when the creek is to low to swim in.

We found a little beach area on our last exploration that we're looking forward to revisting once the creek is flowing again.

Finding hikes that appeal to kids is usually a difficult task, but I think I have the formula down pat.  Just make sure there’s a swimming hole at the end!

Happy Adventuring!
